IVF/ICSI/IMSI

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is one of several techniques used to help treat fertility problems that prevent women from conceiving. During the process, an egg is removed from the woman’s ovary and fertilised with sperm in the laboratory. The fertilised egg (embryo) is then placed in the woman’s womb to grow and develop.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a treatment very similar to IVF. ICSI is recommended when there is a significant male factor problem that is affecting the treatments success. The process is very similar to IVF, the main difference is that only one normal sperm is carefully identified and then injected directly into the cytoplasm of each egg. Due to this only a little amount of sperm is required.

IMSI is very similar to ICSI, the only difference is that the sperm samples are examined under a very powerful microscope to assess the sperm in order to pick the best one, as tiny defects in the sperm head can be identified, which is not visible with ICSI. It allows us to select the optimal sperm to directly inject into the egg.
